Design and Technology- Fantastic Finish

Here are our finished book covers!

Design and Technology

In Year 4 with Mrs Banister, we have been sewing our book covers this week! We have shown great resilience as some of us have found this very tricky!

English

This week in English we have been researching in preparation for our non-chronological reports . In today's lesson, we have been using the iPads to research all about Madrid, including lifestyle, climate, landmarks and fascinating facts!

In maths this week we have been learning about decimals. We have been creating decimals using dienes to represents ones, tenths and hundredths.

Brilliant Beginning...

This half term our topic in Science is sound. Today in our lesson we have made string telephones to experiment how sound can travel through solid items. The children could explain how the sound went from their mouths and into their partner's ear when using the telephone. Well done Year 4!

Safer Internet Day

The children engaged fantastically in discussions about how to stay safe online for our Safer Internet Day! We discussed different scenarios and what to do if we felt uncomfortable when using the internet.

Well done Year 4.

Art

In art, we have been looking at the artist Julian Opie. We have been experimenting using paint splatters to create an outline of a body shape we have drawn.

Science

We have created presentations to stress the importance of dental hygiene. See below for our videos!

Science

We have also created an experiment to see what happens to our tooth enamel fizzy drinks are consumed. We have used eggs to replicate our teeth (the shell acting as the enamel) and have placed one in vinegar and coca-cola, and the other covered in toothpaste in the same substance! We have made it a fair test by keeping the volume of the liquid the same and they are being left in the same place.

See back for the results!

Art

This week in art, we have been learning about Primary and Secondary colours. The children have been experimenting by mixing different paints to see which colours they can make. We also experimented with different brush strokes and different thicknesses of paint brushes.

Science

We have recreated models of our lower jaw using playdough! The children have used different shapes for the different types of teeth we have!

Brilliant Beginnings...

This half term we will be learning about teeth and the digestive system in Science. Today we have recreated the digestive system, ultimately making poo, using everyday items.

Times Table Rockstar Day!

Art

For Remembrance Day, we used our art skill to sketch poppies.

Brilliant Beginnings...

This half term our topic is Myths and Legends. As our brilliant beginning, we have sculpted clay pots!

Maths

Today in maths we have been practicing our 6 times tables. We played a game of matching pairs matching the equation to the answer.

English

This week in English, we have been looking at playscripts. Today we have used a playscript to act out a scene from The Lion King.

Art

We have been practicing our drawing skills today. Here are some of our self-portraits!

DT

In this weeks DT sessions we have been exploring different electrical devices that produce light. Here are some photographs of Year 4 evaluating and using different torches.

PE

This half term in PE we are looking at OOA (outdoor adventurous activities). We have been building habitats in the willow-dome and have created some dens in the hall using the PE equipment.

Nutrition Mission

Last week Year 4 were lucky enough to have Sarah from Sports Partnership come into class and teach them all about health and nutrition. The children learnt about the 5 food groups and how to have a balanced diet. They also designed their ideal healthy lunchbox and learnt about daily amounts of sugars they should be having.
