Look at us learning
Our topic this half term is Exceptional Explorations and in English we are beginning to look at non-chronological reports. We had a class quiz about the region of Bavaria where we had to scan the information text to find the answers.
Home learning WOW work
The children in year 4 have worked incredibly hard this term and we all enjoyed our last two days at school before the Christmas holidays.
We looked at different materials that we could use to complete a circuit and hypothesised about which ones would make the bulb light up and which ones wouldn't. We then tested our hypotheses.
Our class assembly
Year 4 have paid their respects to the fallen in our class assembly based upon remembrance.
Well done to Karol, Charlie B, Nikola, Terry and Antwan for some fantastic half-term homework making Ancient Greek shields and helmets!
Our first half term in year 4!
Well done to Nikola who produced a fantastic story map for her guided reading homework!
We practised our subtraction skills using number cards to make 4 digit numbers. We were then given a challenge to make the smallest difference possible.
We have been working hard to learn our times tables. We enjoyed challenging each other with the 6 times table.
Our finished dance!
We are really enjoying our dance lessons in P.E. with Katie from the Schools Sports Partnership.
In English we are focusing on explanation texts. We have been adding actions to the explanations to help us to remember the steps. We learnt 'Until I Met Dudley' and performed it as a class.
We enjoyed exploring the iPads in our computing lesson. We have also been using them to improve our times tables skills using Timestable Rockstars. The children have their login details in their spelling journals so that this can be accessed at home, our class leaderboard is updated regularly and the children are very excited about it!
In science, our topic is electricity. We explored how to make a bulb light up and discovered how to create a simple circuit. We then investigated how we could switch the bulb on and off, using a paper clip as a switch.
In maths, we have been learning to round 3 and 4 digit numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We used holiday adverts to practise our skills by rounding the price of the holiday to the nearest £100.
Our topic in computing this half term is animation. We had great fun this week making simple animations using flip books. We then showed them to the rest of the class on the big screen.
In our English lessons, we have been reading The Firework Maker's Daughter. We enjoyed acting out an argument between the main character Lila, and her dad.
